Not Recommended: Dynamic Allocation of Virtual FC Client Adapters for NPIV

Not Recommended: Dynamic Allocation of Virtual FC Client Adapters for NPIV

Straight from my vendor who received it from his IBM channel:

The recommended method for creating Virtual FC Client Adapters, for NPIV,
is to add them to the partition’s profile and then shutdown the partition
and reactivate the profile that has the Virtual FC Client Adapters. Do not
add them dynamically!

Each time you Dynamically add a Virtual FC Client Adapters for NPIV it
takes two of the WWPN’s (2nd one is for Partition Mobility operations)
from the finite pool that can never be used again.

The Virtual FC Client Adapters that are added to the Partition’s Profile
will have their own (different from the Dynamically created adapters)
WWPN’s and will stay with the activated Profile.
